Egogain is a residence located in Eibar, where we serve elderly, highly dependent, with intellectual disabilities and with mental illnesses, to whom we care and love, as most people will do here the last years of their lives, work to have the dignified life they need and the quality care they deserve.
With the Deputy's attitude in recent years (as demonstrated by the statement made by Elena Basagoiti), the Council has moved towards privatization and precariousness, which undermines the quality of care that the most vulnerable and institutionalized people deserve, damaging the working conditions of those who work in it.
Examples of this are the continuing changes in staff numbers, inadequate ratios, disappearances of jobs, depreciation, harassment of night colleagues in the CLECE subcontracting (continued imposition of sanctions, etc.). precarious conditions or outdated facilities (a situation recently denounced by the high temperatures experienced by GUREAK workers at the premises), among others.
In this context, they have announced their intention to open the Psychogeriatric Unit (Floor 8) with the same number of workers as we are, without giving any information to the workers and sending messages of terror.
As far as equality is concerned, with the majority of the workers of Egogain women, the Member’s messages in this area seem to us to be mere propaganda: on the one hand, the Member is selling to society a commitment to equality; on the other hand, the women who are workers of the Representative and work at Egogain put us at the centre of all this. We believe that all these words disseminated in the media for the sake of equality are nothing but lies. Slut on the street, wolf at home!
A clear example of this is the rejection of cumulative reductions in child care working hours. And, at the same time, change our professional category from “Nursing Assistant” to “Caregiver”.
In other words, the Member has underestimated and de-professionalised our work. Perform the functions of Nursing Assistant, with the designation of “Caregiver”. Unlike the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Provincial Councils of Bizkaia and Álava recognized the workers the category of “Nursing Assistant” for performing the same work as we did. The Member has been aware of this situation for some time, but does not respect this historic request. The acceptance of the appointment that corresponds to us would entail the recognition of the work done and the guarantee of professional development for the future. For a quality service.
What was said in the previous paragraph, the model being given to “Kabia” and the lack of knowledge we have of our future professional, is of great importance because it has generated the march of very professional colleagues who have been Representative workers and because it allows to turn Egogain into a business and a paradise of subcontractors.
Behind the model that the PNV sells to society with slogans and nice images, which has as its “personal objective”, leads us to precariousness to anyone who may be in a situation of vulnerability. LAB believes that these issues need to be resolved by developing public services, improving the conditions of working people and ensuring comprehensive and quality care for the most vulnerable people. We can all be users of these services. Therefore, at LAB, we ask families who are social agents, workers and users to get involved in the initiatives that are about to start.
“Now people,” now Egogain!
