Spanish Government President Pedro Sánchez has recently visited several countries in Africa to pay tribute to Spain. Visit Mauritania, Gambia and Senegal as a propaganda act: Lehendakari said that the Basque Government will tackle "illegal migration" in the Caribbean and Spanish country. The latest statements in Senegal by the leader of the "most progressive government in history" have served to criminalise a certain migration and fuel the fascist discourse.

Sánchez has defended, among other things, the deportation of people who have had to migrate "irregularly" to the Spanish state: It is "essential" to return them to their countries of origin. To this end, it has sent a "clear and forceful message" to migratory mafias.

Sánchez has warned that the Government has agreements with the authorities of Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania to return migrants to those countries of origin who are able to reach the Spanish State. The leader of the PSOE, for his part, believes that there are difficulties in implementing these agreements and that measures to facilitate deportations in Catalonia will have to be reviewed.

Circular migration

The president of the "most progressive government in history" has been against migration, yes, but not all migration: he wants migrant workers to meet business needs, only temporarily. In fact, on his last trip to Africa, Sánchez has shamelessly claimed the so-called "circular migration" to which he has been subjected.

Through this model, promoted since 2000, the Spanish State seeks foreign workers who will perform specific tasks. They contract temporary work according to the company's needs by means of temporary contracts.

However, they are only hired to perform these tasks: According to the model of "circular migration", once the works in the Spanish state are completed, the workers are returned to their countries of origin. When proclaiming a "regulated", "orderly" and legal migration, that is what the Government of Spain refers to, for example.

Parliamentary circus

And if the circus was no longer enough, pp has complained of Sánchez's statements, which they have described as "insufficient". For example, Borja Sémper has stressed that the statements of the president of the Generalitat would be considered "xenophobic" if it had been produced by a member of the pp. However, it has again demonstrated its position with regard to migration: Sémper has called for a "serious" policy to address migration.
