The movement of pensioners has been mobilised on Monday, 18 May, as was usually the case before the state of alarm was declared. The pensioners have left the street in different parts of the Basque Country, in a format adapted to the health situation: they have kept the distance between people in the concentrations here and there, and have limited the protest to ten people in some municipality.
Pensioners have concentrated on the gates of the Provincial Deputies of the capitals to show their responsibility for the high mortality received by the Deputies in the residences and to denounce the mismanagement carried out in this regard. The banners read messages such as “basic needs are not business”, “older people deserve to be reposed” or “it is care work”.
As they have announced, they will ask Ararteko to launch an investigation into what has happened in the area.
They have taken advantage of the mobilizations to pay homage to the elderly who died in their homes due to the coronavirus. The images of the tribute of Vitoria-Gasteiz have been collected in video:

Following the concentration of Bilbao, Jon Fano, a member of the pensioners’ movement, said that they will go to the streets as far as possible.
