- The measure has been in force since 31 January this year. To access Iparralde from Hegoalde, citizens over the age of 11 must present a negative PCR test at a maximum of 72 hours in advance. Persons living within 30 kilometres of the border and travelling for work are exempted from this condition.
Persons who have to cross the border for work must present a work licence and those who live less than 30 kilometres away a proof of residence. The return trip to Ipar Euskal Herria can be extended by up to 24 hours.
No citizen outside the European Union can access it
The French Government has decided to close the borders to citizens outside the European Union, seeking to avoid the third containment of the pandemic. Nor will French citizens be able to go beyond the borders of the European Union, unless there are very justified arguments for this.
Eight steps, already closed, to "fight terrorism"
The French Government closed eight steps in January between Ipar and Hego Euskal Herria to "combat terrorism" in the context of jihadist attacks on the civilian population. Neighbours denounced the situation on 30 January in the neck of Lizuniaga. Eh Bai and EH Bildu have called a rally on 14 February in Lizarraga to call for the opening of borders.
