  • To denounce the "aggressive and permanent attitude" of a jailer "with Basque political prisoners and Arab prisoners", Patxi Ruiz has made a "political protest": he has wounded himself with a "stabbing object". The Pro-Amnesty and Anti-Repression Movement has explained that "this is not the first time that Basque political prisoners have carried out protests as hard as the amputation of arms" and has transferred their "full support" to chantre Ruiz.

As reported by the Pro Amnesty and Anti-Repression Movement, political prisoner Patxi Ruiz has staged a "harsh protest" about the situation in Catalonia. With a "stabbing object," he's cut his arm. The aim of the action was to denounce the "constant persecution" of a jailer, who has explained that the jailer has an "aggressive attitude" towards "Basque political prisoners and Arab prisoners", with "continuous threats" and attempts to "condition their lives".

In this way, the official "also applies above the prison regulations, establishing its own schedules and customs", and "threatening those who do not comply with them", he added. In addition, Ruiz said that "he has recently beaten several Arab prisoners" and added: "It has made the situation unsustainable." "The jailer has racist and fascist attitudes," he added.

He clarified that it was a "political protest" to hurt himself, placing the action as a "response to the unacceptable attitude" of the jailer: "It's another way to fight," he added.

As a result of the wound, Ruiz had to be taken to the ward to be attended and twelve staples were placed. He is in prison in Murcia II.

According to the AAEAM, "this is not the first time that Basque political prisoners have carried out harsh protests such as arms cutting". In the face of this "extreme situation", they have transferred their "total support" to Ruiz and have censored "the protective and driving attitude that the leadership of Murcia II and, in general, the leaders of Spanish penitentiary institutions keep before this type of fascist militant jailers".
