During the confinement last March, human rights organizations of the Spanish State (CIE) and of France (CRA) requested the closure of migrant detention centres. However, after the lockdown they reopened, and with the second wave of the pandemic on the table, the La Cimade association has again called for the closure of these centres that accumulate population in deplorable conditions. They claim that, with or without a pandemic, the conditions of these centers should be closed forever because they are contrary to human rights, but the spread of COVID19 makes these spaces even more dangerous.
Closer border control
With the argument of the fight against illegal migration, French President Emmanuel Macron intends to double the number of police officers at the borders with Spain and Italy. Now there are 2,400 policemen, gendarmes, CRS and military. There will also be an increase in the police presence at the border that separates Euskal Herria.
