"We will continue on hunger strike until the government hears it," says Dr. Salman Hasseb to the AFP news agency. The movement began on April 15 to demand protective material against the coronavirus. This is a strike promoted by the union Gran Alianza para la Salud. The union recalls the following: “On the front line, by not protecting nurses, the entire population is in danger.”

The protest has taken place at the headquarters of the health directorate of the province of Pendjab. In solidarity, there are dozens of demonstrations taking place every day in Pakistan. In total, some thirty health workers are on hunger strike. But outrage and demand for protective equipment have also spread beyond Pender. Let us say, there were also protests in the province of Baluchistan in early April. The police responded with the repression and arrested a group of health workers on the spot.

For the time being, the government has not responded to the needs of the hunger strikers and the health leadership has asked them to leave the protests and "link to unity".

Pendju has over 100 million inhabitants and the province of Pakistan is very populated. Of the 12,000 Pakistanis infected with coronavirus, 5,000 are indigenous in origin. A Basque health workers union has specified that about 150 workers in the sector are affected by influenza A.
