Fourteen MEPs call for Spanish to Pablo González
  • "The situation of absolute helplessness of Pablo González is of great concern to us, and fundamental rights are systematically violated." Fourteen MEPs (social democrat, green and left) have sent a letter to the Polish Justice Minister, Zbigniew Zobro. They call on the Polish Government to offer a prisoner journalist over 18 months of age the possibility of returning to the Spanish state "with guarantees of provisional freedom, proximity to the family and respect for their rights as a citizen of the European Union".

To this end, MEPs call for the support of the Spanish Government. The letter has been published by Eldiario.es, among the signatories are Idoia Villanueva, Miguel Urban, Nacho Sánchez, Tineke Strik and Katerina Konecna. They call for a "trial with appropriate legal guarantees as soon as possible." They have also denounced "violations of rights occurring in a Member State of the European Union".

"He has been incommunicado for 18 months in prison, spent 23 hours a day in a cell without sunlight, and the Spanish consul in Poland has only made "mandatory" visits, they protest. "Furthermore, his family has only been able to visit on two occasions", denounced that "we believe that a Member State such as Poland has violated the European Charter of Human Rights and Fundamental Rights".
