Otxantegi Herri Lurra convenes a resistance breakfast on Thursday
  • These lands in Berango have been cultivated collectively for two years and the court has ordered eviction by 23 November. The Aguirre Lipperheide family wants to sell eight hectares of agricultural land from Otxantegi for the company Amenabar to build them. Thus, the agroecological project Otxantegi Herri Lurra invites citizens to "defend space".

Meet at 8:30 to "fight eviction": "We will continue to defend space against this wild model of urbanism, even if we have to oppose the laws that support speculation. We cannot allow all the agricultural lands of Uribe Kosta to be destroyed, nor can we mortgage our futures to fit the pockets of landlords and builders," they said.

The agroecological project Otxantegi Herri Lurra has published the following reading:

"The Aguirre Lipperheide family owns a seventh of Berango's area and with this 'pelotazo' it wants to earn 30 million euros. Only here in Otxantegi can eight hectares of agricultural land be lost. In the midst of the ecological crisis, which underlines the importance of food sovereignty and nearby food production (COVID-19, fuel prices, the war in Ukraine, inflation, etc. ), this corrupt urban project is an ecocide and a condemnation of the future.

In addition, the institutions, especially the Berango City Hall, are constantly striving to ensure that this excessive construction is a way to guarantee the right to housing. But we've seen cement devouring our villages, painting with the gray landscape of the area. And despite so much construction, the price of housing continues to rise, and rentals are squeezing us more and more. Does it relate to the guarantee of that right? They're just their businesses, made of our neck. The urban policy of the City of Berango is neither social nor ecological.

For two years we have worked the land, we have made the space a meeting point to learn together and we are ready to continue on it. The seeds sown in Otxantegi will flourish in the gray world you want to build."

A collective project for land defence

Otxantegi Herri Lurra was created and counts on social networks: "Berango City Hall and the Aguirre Lipperheide family have been speculating for years with what communal land should be. That is why we started the popular project Otxantegi Herri Lurra to claim land maintenance for agriculture. Since then, we have been a clear obstacle to the rich minority. Without shame or commitment, speculators claim their interests as 'rights', even if their intentions are contrary to the interests of the citizens. That is why they want to drive us out of soils that measure only in euros."
