Workers in Gipuzkoa residences will continue to strike until 7 February
  • The ELA trade union met on 10 January with a part of the employer in the Labour Relations Council. The union has decided to continue the strike, as the employers did not answer the two conditions required. The workers have been on strike for over 180 days.

The ELA trade union is demanding two minimum requirements from the employers in the residential sector of Gipuzkoa: Salary increase for the years 2017 and 2018 and stamped in each company of the agreement signed at the sectoral table. The union has stated that the employer presented herself to the meeting without "any response".

On 17 January, Friday, a new meeting will be held and the union has stated that the employers have committed themselves to bringing forward a proposal. The union has stressed that the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has the main responsibility, “because it has to put the money itself”.

ELA, which has 60% of the representation, is trying to reach an agreement with part of the employers outside the negotiating table. The next trade union, LAB, has held several days of strike in the Basque Autonomous Community. UGT, with a 10% representation, achieved in November an agreement with the employers to improve wages.

The conflict that began the ELA union in September 2017 has everything in the channel of the Residence of the Elders of Gipuzkoa called Conflict.
