About 20,000 workers work in the metal branch of Álava. The trade unions ELA, CCOO, LAB, USO, ESK and CGT have called for the strike and the works councils of the major companies in the country have joined the call, such as Mercedes, Aernnova, CIE Automotive, Burulan, Amurrio Ferroca, Laminaciones Arrangi, or Condesa Fabril.

Thousands of workers in the previous two days of strike

The first strike took place on Wednesday, 18 May. The protests focused on the capital of the country and at 11:30 thousands of workers joined the demonstration on the streets of Vitoria. The employers set out the continuation of the strike at 7.87% and said it was a "failure"; the unions highlighted the "broad follow-up" of the call. On the day of the second strike on Tuesday, 24 May, the unions decentralized the picetes and mobilizations, which were distributed throughout the polygons of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the districts of Álava.
