The vote will begin at 15:00 a.m. to elect the President of the French Parliament. In total, there are six applicants who choose the primary ones and, as there is no absolute majority, it is not known with certainty who will win. The former President, Macronist Yael Braun-Pivet, is re-introducing himself, but the votes of Macron supporters will be fragmented, precisely because Naima Moutchou, from the centrist group Horizons, also competes. The New People’s Front on the left, the FHB, has presented a single candidate, the communist André Chassaigne, and on the right, Republican Philippe Juvin and the ultra-right Sébastien Chenu. He is also a sixth, Charles de Courson, a member of the independent group LIOT – Freedoms, Independence, Overseas Territories – which brings together a number of Members from right to left.

Protests for recognition of the FHB victory

President Emmanuel Macron does not want to acknowledge the victory of the left and, in general, neither the rest of the central or the right parties give clues to the majority of the FHB. Everyone says that they are not going to admit that there is a prime minister and a left-wing government. That is the way things are, both those in the centre and those on the right try to form a higher majority than that of the group of left-wing Members. On that road, some of the Republicans on the right try to form a party group formed by the Ensemble pour la République de Macron (Together for the Republic). Until now it was called Ensemble, the group surrounding Macron, but on 15 July they changed their names and proclaimed supporters of the Joint Republic to distinguish an increasingly isolated Macron and reflect the breadth.

Faced with this political blockade, July 18 is a day of protest for the recognition of the victory of the FHB. Convened by the CGT and assembled by dozens of agents, they have fixed concentrations and mobilisations in front of the prefectures and in the vicinity of the Basque Parliament. In total, the CGT trade union has encrypted in about 80 the protests that have taken place in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
