The Office of the Prosecutor of Álava requested for Escribano three years in jail and a 24-month fine for a crime on historical heritage and two years and six months in jail for a crime of scam. On the other hand, the DFA requested three years and nine months for the geologist, considering that it could damage the historical heritage.
In addition, for 12 months, the Spanish State will have to pay a fine of EUR 6 per week (€2,232). It must also pay the Basque Government EUR 300 for the damaged part and the Provincial Council of Álava another EUR 300 for the investment costs in the site.
The trial has already begun with a total of 35,000 convicted persons. During the trial, it will be known what happens to Eliseo Gil and Rubén Cerdán, who have been arrested in the case.
For his part, Eliseo Gil has defended his innocence before the courts, minutes before the trial began, at the Palace of Justice. The first meeting of the trial of the Iruña Veleia case under way will be extended in the next few hours.
