The Croix Citadelles were formed in the 1980s, after their passage through the National Front and their expulsion from the Champions League. The group has a nationalist and far-right view of the French State, as they say on their Facebook page, “everywhere, our beautiful France is crumbling. The family values, heritage, identity and also the sovereignty of our country”. Their aim is, among others, to preserve the Christian faith and the heritage of Western civilisation, and they say that they are replenishing themselves in the mountains that have raised the crossings.
On Saturday morning the cross rose to the top of Mount Orhi, between Navarre and Zuberoa, and it was thrown out in the afternoon.
