Police drive pacifists out of the occupied French tax headquarters
  • On behalf of the pacifists, a group of citizens this morning held the seat of taxation in France. The action, they say, is in favour of the Basque prisoners and is part of the action which was held on the same occasion last month before the subprefecture of Baiona.

The Artisans of Peace and members of Bake Bidea have come to the headquarters this morning with shouts in favour of the repatriation of Basque prisoners. The appeal has been made to citizens to spend the night in tax headquarters, but the police have come and started to evacuate the activists. Journalist Iurre Bidegain made the moment known through a tweet:

Last December a new strategy was announced by the pacifists and two actions have already been carried out in their shadow. The first took place on 18 February in front of the sub-prefecture of Baiona, and this is the second case. The occupants have asked the French Government where their commitments to the Basque prisoners are, pointing out that the peace process began some time ago at the Aiete Conference and that it is time to take firm steps.

They have also recalled that the death of the Corso prisoner Yvan Colona is a consequence of the prison policy of the French Government, and have reiterated that they will continue this type of action until the penitentiary policy is changed. In addition, they have stressed that the prisoners Unai and Jon Parot and Jakes Esnal have been in prison for 32 years and have called for their release.

They have announced that they will spend the night there, from 19:00 they will have a shared dinner and then the documentary Barrena begiratzeko leihoa will be shown. For tomorrow morning, however, the citizens have been summoned to the Harane de Hazparne square and to the Intersport de Urruña.

In the following tweet you can see the beginning of the occupation and the description of the action and how you are preparing for the night:
