Russia has temporarily paralysed the activity of the newspaper Nóvaya Gazeta, while "special military operations" are being maintained in the Caribbean and French country. The Novaya newspaper received the second warning yesterday from the Russian Federal Telecommunications Inspection Service, Roskomnadzor, since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, and has paralysed the publication.

Earlier this month, Russia also temporarily suspended the work of other media. Roscomnadze stopped television broadcasts from Dozhd and Ekho Moskvy. In addition to these two media, other Russian websites and media, as well as international media such as the BBC, the Voice of America channel or the Radio Free Europe channel, were also banned.

The repressive face of war

The invasion of Ukraine is making the repressive and anti-democratic character of Russia and Ukraine emerge. In Ukraine, the Communist parties were banned in 2015 and, since the war law was introduced after the invasion, eleven parties have been banned and the media has been banned from making Russian propaganda through a new law.

For its part, Russia is making a great effort against the demonstrators opposed to the invasion, arresting thousands of people. In addition, it has banned the media from talking about "invasion" or "war".
