“Note taking is the best system to know and learn each one’s own garden”
  • There is already the Moon agenda and the plants of 2022, a tool that has become common, and almost necessary, in homes with orchards and plants. One more year, Antton Olariaga Aranburu has given the texts of Jakoba Errekondo Saltsamendi some beautiful drawings: “We have an agenda for life, a tool to unite the everyday of oneself with the moon and the earth,” the counterpart explains. This practical and beautiful tool is now available at the ARGIA Fair and in the regular bookshops and we have asked Jakoba Errekondo about the peculiarities of this year.

It is the fifth agenda that we have in our hands. What's new this year?

This year’s agenda has two new features: on the one hand, we have changed the physical format, as we have put the spiral to make it more useful and take notes to take advantage of all the spaces. On the other hand, each year we give prominence to a subject, and this year has been the most enriching one, which covers the main work that must be done every month from the point of view of the subscription. In addition, this year we have included more texts than in previous years, because the subject gives much and people have also asked for it.

In any event, they have kept some paragraphs from previous years.

Yes, at the entrance there are fixed parts: it explains about the effects of the moon, and at the end also includes the basic work to be done in the vegetable garden: alternations, with whom goes well, natural treatments with grass… All of them are repeated, because people appreciate that they have access to these jobs.

Is it so important to attend to the Moon?

Yes, it is clear that it influences the orchard. The Moon has two cycles, and above all one of them influences: the moon in the growing room or in the wandering room. The influence of one or the other is very evident in the orchard, both at the time of planting, as well as in planting, in the elaboration of fertilizers, in the cultivation of the soil, in pruning and in grafts… All of this is explained in the initial section. In addition to the explanations, each week there is the state of the moon in relation to the two cycles: Rising and Wandering, and Rising and New Moon.

The owner will have to complete the agenda with his notes one more year…

Of course, the agenda is for each of them to incorporate their work and learn from it. In the end, it is not the same to do a job in Tudela as in Mutriku, in each place the quality of the land changes, the microclimates are also there… All that influences what happens in each orchard. Taking notes, we will learn to adapt the work to our land, to our vegetable garden. And, in addition to learning, it will allow us to share the conclusions! Taking notes is the best system to know the characteristics of each vegetable garden and learn how to work.

Antton Olariaga has already become an important part of the team, right?

Yes, Olariaga’s contribution is impressive, as it turns a common agenda into a work of art. Each drawing is worth making a painting, each year they are better. In the end, Olariaga is also getting wet and learning with the subject, and that's noticeable.
