The Basque Government has declared areas of risk for the northern and middle sectors of the Miranda de Ebro.Segun groundwater mass have recently published in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country, the reason for the declaration of a zone of risk is that they collect waters that exceed certain levels of nitratos.Se the agricultural land between the Ebro River and the upper part of the Larrazubi Bridge.

"Water quality monitoring carried out in other areas of the CAPV has shown that part of the Miranda de Ebro water mass contains water contaminated or potentially contaminated by nitrates from agriculture. It has therefore been considered necessary to declare a risk zone to the northern and medium-sized sectors of the Miranda groundwater mass, due to nitrate pollution from agriculture."

The Environment Department of the Basque Government therefore considers it essential to draw up action plans in these risk areas in order to prevent and reduce pollution caused by nitrates from agriculture. Such plans shall, for example, limit the quantities and types of chemical fertilisers that farmers may use.
