The group formed in the 90s by Fermín and Iñigo Muguruza, Kaki Arkarazo, Mikel Kazalis and Mikel Abrego will have a special place in the annual citation of the Lakaxita youth center.

The self-managed space proclaims its place in the city through this festival and the musical truck that crosses the streets of Irun has already become a classic. It is a symbolic occupation, a proclaiming and festive action that extends the dynamics of Lakaxita to the whole of Irun.

Lakaxita members describe the Red Winters as a “musical guerrilla”: The group provided many tools for social critique of Irun and, in general, of the “historical context that has touched us,” they say.

The youth center was occupied in 2005, while the Red Winter performed from 1990 to 1996 on the Basque and international stages –they returned to perform three concerts in 2001 to celebrate their victory in the trial for the denunciation that the Civil Guard Enrique Rodríguez Galindo put them.

The two projects have therefore not converged in time, but the members of Lakaxita believe that, indirectly, the group of crossed axes has had an impact on the youth: “Because there is no such thing without a gigantic community work, and there is no such thing without a critical mass.”

In their note to the press announcing Saturday’s party, they have clearly stated: “The Red Winters have made a great contribution to the popular sectors where we want to change all this.”
