On Monday morning began the demolition works of No. 12 of Lope de Vega Street in the Itzubaltzeta district of Getxo. According to Mr. Trío, the building has begun to demolish by 06:30 in the morning to ensure the execution of the demolition after the closure of the street by the Ertzaintza. The members of the Red Alert radio programme have taken video footage of the dismantling:

In view of the awareness that dismantling has begun, several neighbours have met to denounce what was happening. The Ertzaintza has charged him against them and, according to Hiruka, has taken a person encandied.

Tense atmosphere from a week ago

The City of Getxo and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia intend to build an Intergenerational Center in the place of the building that in the past was the Gaztetxe and the Casa de los Valles Mayor, although some citizens express their opposition. For example, the members of the Casa de Valles Mayor have been struggling for a long time to maintain the Casa de los Grandes. However, the City Hall passed the competence of the building to the Provincial Council of Bizkaia on 7 February, and within a week began the work of preparing the demolition.

Given the proximity of the demolition, the atmosphere tended last week in the neighborhood. Aware that the demolition works began on Monday, several neighbours met the building on Tuesday in order to make the works more difficult. As the morning progressed, the atmosphere was tense and the police dared the citizens, causing one detainee and more than ten wounded, including a journalist from the environment Hiruka. Protests continued on Wednesday and a person in protest had to be taken to the hospital after being injured in the head by the police.

Demolition the day after mobilisation against the mobilisation

The day after mass mobilization against demolition, the building began to collapse. On Sunday, February 19, at noon, several neighbors and neighbors demonstrated from Plaza de Santa Eufemia. Not only did they denounce the demolition, the day centre and the demolition of the building, but also the use of police violence in previous days. Naiz has received several statements from the demonstration in which he regrets that the municipal government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have responded with repression to the discrepancy of the citizens in the street and in the institutions. They denounce that agents have been treated as "dangerous criminals" and not as "persons defending their rights". "The right of older people to active and, why not, activist ageing", for example.

We and we, the intergenerational ones, have been another of the mottos of mobilization, suggesting that without the need of the Intergenerational Center, the different generations have lived in the building of Lope de Vega Street, and that in the protests intergenerality has been evident.
