In November, the Spanish Government's Ministry of Labour withdrew the medal awarded in 1964 to industrial man Félix Huarte. The Government of Navarra has not acted in the same way with the Gold Medal granted to it by the UPN Government in 2014, which has provoked a stir in the Foral Community.
On this subject, Counselor Ollo explained that when he arrived at the Government in 2015, for the first time in the Government of Navarra, policies on historical memory began to be developed, and determined that symbols and people related to Franco had for the first time included in the provisional census of people.
To this end, the Foral Government requested several reports, including the UPNA. However, to explain why he has not withdrawn the medal to Huarte, Elma Saiz, spokesman for the current government, explained that the list received by the executive did not include the name of Félix Huarte.
Since then, current and past Governments have been asked to explain why names were removed from that initial census. As Ollo explained on Thursday – always with the parliamentary press release – no name has been removed from any report, “it was an interim census because we had to act quickly, because we forgot about decades” and “new research was needed”.
"We presented a list of people who have certainly participated in human rights violations, but it is clear that not all names are there," he said, "six years have passed and we have worked a lot. Work is being done on updating the census, but it has not been opened because it belongs to the technical committee," he said. The Technical Commission on Historical Memory will meet in January to carry out these functions.
Ollo complained about his bustle because the Government of Navarra is working hard on the historical memory: "I don't know if behind there is an effort to sweep away the excellent work being done in Navarra." Ollo announced that in the coming days or weeks it will make available to parties the reports dealing with these issues. Perhaps then it will be clear exactly what has happened to the census names and why, because this appearance has not yet succeeded in explaining everything that has happened.
