The last official vestige of the Kingdom of Navarre dates back to the beginning of the 17th century to a title. Louis XIII was both king of France of Navarra. But on October 20, 1620, after a military expedition and during the protests, he published the edict of Pau, in which he founded the Lower Navarre, Zuberoa, Biarno, Lanhalla and the Principality of Andorra in the French crown.
The Zabalik Association and the Nabarralde Foundation will take advantage of the fourth centenary of this important date to speak and reflect on this loss: “We believe it is important, since today, to value and interpret this fact – you have explained –. Since then, the promise of the State that Navarre could make is frozen.”
On October 3, a conference was organized in Donapaleu “in the city that was the capital of Navarre” in which historians and experts will talk about the edict and the political context of the time. The congress will be led by the writer and historian Jean Louis Davant and will feature, among others, Álvaro Adot, Xabier Irujo, Luis María Martínez Garate, Amaia Nausia, Thierry Issartel and Miqueu Joseph, among others.
In addition to congressional interventions, it will also be presented in 1620. Rebirth. Under the title The Last Breath of the Sovereign Navarre and with the title 'Kale borroka', Asisko Urmeneta will also offer a reading of texts in Basque and Spanish.
