42 Navarran municipalities have approved motions for the recognition of torture
  • For political reasons, the Navarra Network of Torturados has welcomed the results of the initiative launched four months ago. Motions were tabled in 101 municipalities in Navarros through this initiative. However, they denounce that in the Municipality of Valle de Erro and Valle de Egüés they have not been accepted and consider these attitudes negationist.

To date, 64 motions have been recorded, of which 42 have been approved in municipalities. In the coming days they will be analysed in 20 other municipalities and only both have been voted against. “The assessment we make in this regard is certainly very positive, because, as KREI said, when presenting the report in Parliament, the negationism of this practice is limited to the past, and the institutions are also in favour of overcoming this situation, because the reality of torture is an aspect to work for the future in the framework of an inclusive memory, which will then have social and institutional recognition”, as pointed out from the Network.

However, the municipalities of Valle de Erro and Valle de Egüés have voted against “using excuses today outside the parameters of coexistence, recognition and truth”, the Network has denounced.

Specifically, there are 6 residents of the Valle de Erro and 4 residents of the Valle de Egüés who have denounced that they have been tortured, “and the institution closest to these people denies them that they are tortured people, based on the denial and impunity of this practice,” the Network criticized.
