CESPA announces closure of the Mutiloa landfill by surprise
  • According to the newspaper Noticias de Gipuzkoa, the Lurpe landfill, located in Mutilva, will be closed on 1 March. According to Goierriko Hitza, the decision has been "taken with surprise" by the company and the Mutilva City Hall "does not know about it either".

Every year in Mutilva 200,000 tonnes of "inert" waste were collected – until 2019 also household waste. Although the closure was planned, as it was approaching the limit of its capacity, the decision has been immediate, according to Gipuzkoa News: "The news has caught customers (both public and private) and also the plant workers," he added. Apparently, this decision is taken to "guarantee the safety" of the landfill and soon the works of the plant will begin to be sealed.

It is precisely in these days that the Basque Government has asked for help from the CAV landfill sites, because they do not know where the 1,400 tonnes of inert waste that was produced daily in Zaldibar is going. Lurpe, among other things, was authorised to collect asbestos. The 200,000 tonnes that were taken each year to the Mutiloa landfill will also have to be brought to light today.

The landfill of Lurpe de Mutiloa became popular when the possibility of carrying the remains of the Zubieta incinerator was opened. In ARGIA we published the interests of the owners of CESPA.
