Urkullu calls for action against "xenophobic and populist" movements
  • Lehendakari has advocated "stopping" the ultra-right movement of the Spanish State, setting the Basque conflict as an example. In this sense, he has called for "respect, will for dialogue and peace" for the Basque Country.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has taken the floor and addressed them in connection with the formation of a right-wing government in Andalusia. He has described the situation as "serious", as the ultra-right movement in general is increasing throughout the Spanish State and also internationally. He said that they are “populist, xenophobic, demagogic and authoritarian speeches” and that we must “fight” them, without giving in. The Basque conflict has set an example: “We have learned a lot from our recent past, we have turned it back to difficulties and we are building a society based on respect, peaceful negotiation and peace. This should be the case throughout Spain.”

On the other hand, he also referred to the De Miguel case, in which Infanta Cristina was arrested. He has denied the "generalist and stigmatized" criticisms that have been attributed to the Jeltzale formation in Congress. In any event, he pointed out that he is pleased that the case has been resolved and that we have to look to the future. However, he pointed out that he felt "hurt" by the lack of commitment felt by the citizens in this situation.
