The Feminist Network of Gernika-Lumo has called a demonstration in Gernika to support the woman who denounced last Saturday coach and former sports director Mario López of the Lointek for a continued crime of sexual assault on the child. The march, which took place a year after knowing the facts, was attended by 1,400 people, under the motto “we believe you and we are with you”. Women have been reported to have been victims of sexual abuse of minors between 1998 and 2001.

The feminist movement has denounced that, faced with sexual violence, "there are those who continue to perpetuate silence." In addition to the aggressor and his “accomplices”, they have pointed out that “the leadership of the basketball team that has not assumed any real responsibility” shows that, despite the “lies, manipulations and gross errors that have been recognized with the small mouth”, they have not fixed themselves in the aggressor and “after a year they have not responded to the measure of the aggressor”.

After the mobilization, the feminists have recalled that in the world of sport they have been asked on several occasions to the City of Gernika a table to “work with sexual violence” and that until today they still have not received an answer.

The trial will be held between 14 and 16 January 2025 at the Bizkaia Hearing. The Prosecutor’s Office asks Mario López for 14 years in prison, a compensation of 20,000 euros and a ban on approaching the town where the victim resides for 10 years. In this sense, they have pointed out that the trial "will not be tender" and that the criminal code of sexual violence "is not enough". In this way, they assure that what is resolved is resolved, “we believe you and with you are,” they will claim.
