Modi and Trudeau: how to bring an alliance to the abyss
  • Diplomatic relations between India and Canada are at the worst in their history: Last week, Ottawa sent the Indian ambassador and five other top diplomats; and, in return, the Government of New Delhi did so immediately.

It is not the usual circumstances in normalized relations, let alone those that could be expected from those countries that say they want to lend themselves to the Indo-Pacific strategy. But also not that amazing, maybe. If you know the protagonists a little bit.

The current crisis clearly stems from the assassination of Canadian activist and citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June last year by two masked in British Columbia. Nijjar was a member of one of the movements advocating independence Khalistan, claimed by the most radical Sikh, and India included him among the most wanted terrorists. There was no doubt from the very beginning that, behind the assassination, he had to walk, directly or indirectly, by the hand of Hindu RAW. Because there was a similar background in the past.

The tension, however, made J. The Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau, accused Indian official bodies of having committed the murder a year ago in Parliament. And when he was pressured to clarify the scope of the indictment, Trudeau made it clear that she had knowledge from the U.S. spy coordinator Five Eyes, who acts under the shadow of the United States. To reaffirm its words, the United States also announced that it was also a matter of getting an end to a murder like the one it was about to commit.

The reverse of this skill is that it has become clearer, through Five Eyes or as it is called, that the Americans and the compas are watching the communications and activities of the Indian diplomatic missions. Things are apparently not only illegal, but they could hardly be approved by those who claim to be allies.

That is why, surely, the Modi Government goes far beyond officially claiming its innocence and, through the Manupacos, accuses Trudeau of all the responsibility for the crisis. This, on the contrary, wants to appear on the correction plant, as a turning point in the acceptance indices it has at home. In any event, it is a fact that, even after the direct dialogue between the two prime ministers of Laos, relations are still approaching the gulf.

Justin Trudeau is not a politician who deals with the virtues of dealing with the great Asian powers, especially with their highest responsibility. With Xi, Balin killed the decline in the Meng Wanzhou case. With Modi, he has done something similar in Laos, after the Nijjar case.

The results are witness.
