Amuriza won the Igartza Award in 2017, which is awarded annually by the City Hall of Beasain, the publisher Elkar and the company CAF. On Wednesday, he presented in San Sebastian the novel “Basa”, made with the help of the prize. Bertsolari, who had previously worked on children's and youth literature, has become his first work aimed at adults.
The novel has as its protagonist an old baserritarra named Sabina, which is called La Sabina. “A savage woman,” according to the author. Hence the title of the work. The story starts from an operation to Sabina that places in the role of guarding a woman who has become accustomed to being a caregiver, giving way to the conflict. Sabina, until then, had cared for her brother-in-law of the agency. But when it comes to being cared for by your children, you will live in control. The situation will cause a clash for the protagonist.
The literary project presented by Amuriza to the Igartza Awards is entitled Paper Txoriak, and the change of title indicates that this is a novel that has moved far away from the original intention. In the presentation of the project, the author has explained that both its place and destination were very different, which has made the result very different from what was available. At first you saw that your idea had too broad a framework on the road and you explained that you had to do a waste job. In this sense, he has recognized that the writing process has been a "humbling lesson", as well as a source of learning and experimentation.
