With thousands of steps, we've made a lot of progress.
Nafarroako Sare Herritarra @SareNafarroa 2021eko urtarrilaren 25

The challenge of January this year was not small. The objective, of course, is great: to give way to the social impulse within the process of returning the Basque prisoners home. Obvious difficulties. The epidemic was linked to the snow. A lot of obstacles for people to come out, move and meet. Is it possible to make visible the desire of a large majority of this society? It was time to put in place all the tools we had at our disposal: creativity, organizational capacity, community work... And yes, the result has been spectacular. Thank you.

In Navarre, the mobilizations took place in more than 80 localities and neighborhoods of the foral community. 330 volunteers participated in the organization... We met thousands of citizens. Hundreds of photos and videos capture and spread the feat forever. Awesome for anyone who wants to see; inevitable for those who would rather not see.

"It's beneficial to stand on the road, raise your head, look back and become aware of the size of the stretch already traveled, because it's more what we've traveled than what we have left to reach the top."

We believe that we are the first to be aware of the importance of what has been achieved. Using a metaphor taken from mountaineering that we love so much, when we have in view the difficulties that we will have to overcome to reach the summit that we dream of, it is beneficial to stop on the road, raise our heads, look back and become aware of the size of the part of the road that we have already traveled, because it is more than what we have left to reach the top.

Today, the challenge of releasing the knot of the prisoners is the social challenge that has more plurality, more strength and more consensus in this country. This undeniable reality shows that for the vast majority of society, for the main social, political and trade union agents, the disconnection of prisoners is the variable that is linked to coexistence and solution; a challenge that must be addressed as a people, to the urgency of this society to look in the eyes of a new future. It is very significant that the victims of ETA are increasingly turning towards ending the emergency penitentiary policy.

This is the key to opening the path that we have to travel to reach the top. May all trust that when we reach the top all of us will be the winners, that there will be room to put the symbols of all, that no one will want to stay alone for her and her symbols. These words of Gabriela Mistral can serve to symbolize the hardness of the road: we all have our feet hurt, hurt; we all need to get to the place of rest and care as soon as possible that we can only find on the top. The road is also becoming ever clearer: the era of emergency prison policy must be left behind; the removal must be put to an end, the sick and the elderly must be dismissed. The handles are also set up to make the way that leads us to the summit: a broad agreement for the integration of prisoners in coexistence or the pooling of the tools of malign application of Law 7/2003.

Well, the pause ended to realize what had been going on. Let's resume the march. Let us make room for those who have not yet joined the road, there will be no summits for anyone, if not all of us can be comfortable. It makes no sense to leave for later on the steps that can be taken now, wasting time will only allow the arrival of black clouds and storms.

Come with us! Be the way!
