“Once again, everything is ETA in the itsu-pelagic refrain,” the organizers of the demonstrations in Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián rejected the Madrid courts’ condemnation of Basque citizenship.

The National Court has sentenced Arantza Zulueta to seven and a half years in prison; Jon Enparantza to four years; Naia Zuriarrain to three and a half years; and Iker Sarriegi to three years. The sentence acquitts the other defendants: Julen Zelarain, Saioa Agirre and Nere Redondo. In the act that followed the march, the defendant Juan Mari Jauregi, who died before the trial, was also recalled.

The events following the demonstration recalled the numerous violations of rights in case 13/13. “Illegal police operation, irregular registration and wiretapping, dark and dirty work of the CNI, violation of fundamental rights”, or use of torture. The most repeated word was “cruelty.”

The respondents reported that the sentence is contrary to law and that it is out of place and time: “Most citizens and agents have committed themselves to peace, justice, truth and coexistence.”
