It has been 37 years since Mikel Zabraise was tortured and killed by the Civil Guard and on Sunday he has been honoured in Orbaizeta, his hometown, and in the Donostia district of Levante, where he lived. In both cases the responsibilities for the death of Zabraise have been demanded, because the Spanish Government has not yet acknowledged that he was killed by police violence.

Opposite Arma ola de Orbaizeta is the commemorative stone of Mikel Zabraise, where families and neighbors have gathered. They have claimed the “truth, justice, reparation and the guarantee not to repeat”, as they have done for 37 years, although Madrid has not made any changes in tendency at that time. Last February the Basque Government recognized Zabraise as a victim of police violence, but not by the Spanish Government. However, Eneko Villegas, a member of the popular initiative ‘Mikel Zabascengoan’, says that “the truth advances”: “In some old audios or in the voices of those who have managed state violence.” The first concerns the audio that has shown that torture was being tortured in Intxaurrondo, and the second, that former Interior Minister Barrionuevo acknowledged and supported state terrorism three weeks ago.

The case of Mikel Zabraise is not an isolated case, and to remind you, the brother of José Miguel Etxeberria Naparra, who has disappeared since 1980, has also been present in the tribute to Orbaizeta. On the part of the family, Mikel's sister, Arantza Zabascene, who thanks those present. As every year Mikel's tomb has danced the aurresku and the City of Orbaizeta, the popular initiative and the Naparra family have made a floral offering.

In the Donostiarra district of Altza, in the place designated by Mikelen Txokoa, there is a mural tribute to it, in which, one more year, neighbors and family members have not failed: the aurresku, the floral offering and the words to reclaim the truth on the question of Zabraise. Irutxuloko Hitza chronicles Sunday. The popular initiative ‘Mikel Zabsubigogoan’ explained to Denis Itxaso, representative of the Government of Spain in the CAV, who requested a meeting by letter for Madrid to recognize Mikel Zabsubic as a victim of the police.

Denis Itxaso attended the tribute two years ago, but “as a personal gesture”. However, the people ' s initiative has called for political and institutional steps and has considered assistance to the tribute and the decision not to post the official secrets of the State inconsistent.
