Groups of migrants have called for a protest rally on Friday, December 18, before the City Council of the Basque capital. The protest was called at 19:00 hours under the motto “Without safe roads, emigrate #ErradesColonial violence #Quarón” (“Without safe road, migrating is also colonial violence #Regularization Orain”).

Among the demands they will make, they have given centrality to: “We call on the Basque Government and the Government of Spain to immediately, eternal and unconditional regulate all migrants, to legally recognize working people who care for elderly people in situations of dependency and to repeal the Law on Aliens.

They have not chosen randomly on 18 December to make the accusations and claims of the accused. As you have explained, on 18 December 2000, the UN declared that day as International Migrant Day, with the aim of protecting the human rights of migrants. “Today, twenty years later, migrants have no right to move freely, they suffer all kinds of violence, even in the destination countries, where they are persecuted and criminalized,” they have denounced. Therefore, in Bilbao it has been decided to convene an anti-racist and anti-colonial concentration on behalf of groups and entities of people migrated and racialized from the Basque Country. Migrated Women Feministak - Sociosanitary, Federation of Migrant Associations of Bizkaia, Network of Migrated and Racialized Women of Euskal Herria, Sierra Maestra, Euskal Herria Antiracist Movement, Migrated Without Borders, Acabiz, Regularization of Bizkaia Now! The conveners are the Platform and the Feminists of Nicaragua.

They have denounced that Europe spends millions of euros on closing borders, which has led the ‘host’ countries to normalise racist violence. They have stressed that there are more than 600,000 irregular migrants in the Spanish State, which means: “Working in conditions of extreme precariousness, with virtually no social and labour rights, condemning many of them to labor exploitation, care for the dependent elderly, housework or cleaning and agriculture.”

In this regard, they have denounced that it is not enough to denounce unfair laws and have claimed that any racist policy must be condemned and commitments made to deal with policies affecting migrants, such as the control of migration, deportations, police violence, the withdrawal of care or precariousness.

In Vitoria-Gasteiz, anti-racist activists have called for mobilisation at 19:00 p.m. in front of the post office. In Pamplona/Iruña, on Sunday, December 20, at 12:00, a walk will take place from the Paseo del Vergel to Sarasate.

This year the situation in the Canary Islands will be considered in particular, as pointed out by the calls from Pamplona. The proponents of migrant mobilizations claim that the islands are Africa, but "the paradox is that Africans are not allowed to enter them. They are islands that welcome thousands of tourists, but they do not want to welcome migrants. This reality shows the rules of the game: It depends on the money you have the right to migrate in this 21st century."
