Metal workers take a seat in front of the Basque Government following Urkullu's support for the employers
  • The lehendakari of the Basque Government, Iñigo Urkullu, has accused the unions of "unwillingness" and that the employers "have done everything possible" for the agreement in Bizkaia. The trade unions have strongly criticised these words and, precisely, the central event of the third day of strike was the one held prior to the seat of the Basque Government in Bilbao. The two sides have been very far from reaching agreement.

This Wednesday, the metal returns to Bizkaia with the third day of strike followed by the unions. The unions have described the previous two days as "very successful" (there has been talk of a "historic" strike) and the employers have talked about a follow-up of less than 25%.

Incidents

On Tuesday, the employer has denounced in the Duranguesado “the violent pickets” of the organization. On the contrary, the unions have criticized that when they were going to inform the companies they would have approached the Ertzaintza "to glue us and threaten us".

Halting the negotiation of the convention

Relations between the two sides are bitter and it seems that the conflict will last a long time. At the moment there is no date for the next negotiating meeting of the convention.

On the other hand, the statements of the lehendakari have angered the trade unions, which have roundly denied. Urkullu has stated that the unions were prepared to strike since the summer, which shows a lack of willingness to agree, and ELA has asked him to rectify those words: "It is not understood that lehendakari makes it so clear in the defense of employers. He has bought the discourse of economic power and has moved away from people who do not reach the end of the month.” LAB has called for the resignation of lehendakari, following today's meeting.
