A few weeks ago we were (only physically) Jesus Fernández Naves, for most of the vitorians "Naves". Many citizens who are fondly reminded of a fairer world based on autonomous organization and anti-militarist militancy of the working class have not had the opportunity to greet as they want because of the current situation.
Some of us who have had the pleasure and pride of participating in their closest environments (friendly, working, militant or family) believe that we do not fail thinking of Jesúsi, Naves, someone who refused to push personalism and the leading protagonist, who would not be graceful, official tribute, or institutional recognition. And if there's any kind of popular greeting you like, surely that would be the participation of all the people we love at the March 3 demonstration. To make our tribute also part of the spirit of this great annual popular mobilization: Continue to claim the memory and current status of the workers’ struggle around 3 March in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and the denunciation of the massacre and its inspirations.
"If there is any kind of popular greeting you like, surely that would be the participation of all the people we love at the manifestation of March 3"
That is why we have made the decision to write these lines among some people nearby, as well as to bring a banner with the motto Agur Naves: all power to the assembly. Because we believe that this is the phrase that best condemns his contribution to the struggle of the workers. We have also agreed with the organisations hosting the demonstration that make a significant part of their best known public testimony heard at the end of the political act: Words spoken at the Cathedral on the day of the funeral by those killed on 3 March.
We know that people leave, but their deeds and testimonies are kept, and we will have time to pronounce and recover the words of Jesus Naves. Not to worship him or to offer him laurels, but to keep them from being lost, to be part of the contributions and lessons that are so necessary for the autonomous and popular labor movement. Naves pushed it throughout her life as a continuation of the struggle for this truly just and necessary society. There are voices that slip away from us and we have to give them back their breath. Recovering dreams and forms of horizontal, transparent, participatory organization. Research the remains of that rebel fire, of which they were part with many other neighbours of Vitoria. Risking... in their reconstruction.
It's the best way to say it loud and clear: Jesus, we don't forget you. Neither you, nor the hundreds of people who participated in the Patrimony of March 3, 76, who during these 45 years have left us anonymously and silently without our mentions, greetings or public hugs. Participating in the demonstration on March 3 of this year is the best way that has occurred to us to give the only Popular Greeting that Jesus would certainly not reject. We see each other there.
