The City of Vitoria qualifies Martín Villa, Francoist Minister of the Interior as "non grata"
  • On Friday, the plenary session of the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz approved a motion from the platform against Franco with the votes in favour of the PNV, EH Bildu, Podemos and Irabazi. The pp and the PSE-EE have been against this motion for a resolution. Rodolfo Martín Villa is one of the political leaders of the 3 March 1976 massacre.

The motion adopted by the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz contains four petitions:

1. The City Hall will urge the Spanish Government to approve the agreement of the Council of Ministers of 13 March 2015, to approve and process Martín Villa’s extradition request to Argentina.

2.- Invite the Spanish courts to investigate and prosecute those responsible for crimes against humanity committed in Franco and in the "Transition". Especially, the cases in which Martín Villa could have responsibilities.

3. Designate Martín Villa as a "non grata" person in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

4. To transfer this agreement to the Spanish Ministry of Justice, the President of the National Court, the President of the Supreme Court, the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Argentine Court which has investigated the case.

Some thirty memorialist groups in the Spanish state, including Euskal Herria, launched a campaign in January to denounce the impunity of Martín Villa.
