Marta Harnecker, one of Latin America’s leading Marxist ideologues, dies
- The writer, scientist, journalist and thinker Marta Harnecker died on 15 June at the age of 82. He was born in Chile in a family of Austrian immigrants. This important Marxist-Leninist author constantly analyzed the evolution of the labor movement and the left. A disciple of the French philosopher Louis Althusser had a great impact on many of the leftists of South America and the world. He is the author, among many others, of the book "The Elemental Concepts of Historical Materialism". Relentless discoverer from the South American left, Manuel Piñeiro was a partner of the one who was head of the Cuban security forces, as well as adviser to Chávez between 2002 and 2006.
