The National Court has filed the case against the Basque dam Marixol Iparraguirre, who has been arrested for alleged murder. However, the National Court has closed the case on the understanding that the facts have prescribed and has been attributed responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, head of Ermua (Bizkaia), in July 1997, as head of ETA.
In an order, the magistrates have admitted the appeal filed by the defense of Iparragirre. The Prosecutor’s Office has joined this appeal and considered that since the crime was committed (13 July 1997) until the complaint was filed against Iparragirre (6 February 2022) almost 25 years had elapsed, when the limitation period was 20 years.
In the same cause were the Donostiarra Mikel Albisu and the Navarros Josetxo Arizkuren and Iñaki Gracia, and it is still to see if for the latter it is also understood “prescribed”.
