The Beskoitz City House is putting on the table the technical difficulties for the ikastola not to carry out its project. It has rejected several requests from the Ikastola, so the main project, that is, the prefabricated ones, makes it impossible. Seaska agents have requested to take advantage of vacant rooms in the village, eat in the town hall, park in public parking or rent the land of a private owner. Everything has been rejected by the village house. In case a new building was built, a limit of 50 students was imposed. They currently have 51 students.

Pello Jorajuria is president of Seaska and in statements to Euskal Irratia he explained that the attitude of the elected officials of the 1970s reminds of what is happening: “The attitude of the people’s house is contrary to the Basque and voluntarily assumes it. They want the Basque people to be limited. In the 1970s we met this kind of elected office, we thought the time had passed, but no, there are always some houses of the people who want to fight against the Basque.”

You can't talk to the village house

The representatives of the ikastola had the opportunity to speak a month ago with the prefet of the Atlantic Pyrenees, Julien Charles, and asked him to mediate with the house of the people. The prefect said.

The representatives of the ikastola have called an interview to the consistorial house, but have not received an answer. Christine Cheverry Paluat and Patrick Eliçagoyen presented their opinion in the Sud Ouest newspaper. The article explained why the building would not be authorized.

Julen Jauregi, coordinator of the ikastola de Beskoitz, made statements in Euskal Irratia about what the elects have written in the press: “Through the press they tell us in their answer that in our air catchment area we need to add two parking spaces… And in the end, what will be the next? We always accumulate arbitrary conditions and suffice. We want us to talk to them and that is why we ask Seaska to all meet on November 18 to show that Euskal Herria wants a ikastola to come out here. The future of the Basque Country is at stake.”

November 18 will be a national demonstration to “make the largest exhibition possible.” The president of the Federation of Ikastolas of Euskal Herria, Nekane Artola, spoke for the Basque radios: “Here is a state of lockdown that needs unlocking and in that unlocking we see that the support of the ikastolas of Euskal Herria will give strength to dialogue.”

Ten years in the prefabricated ikastola

The Beskoitz ikastola was launched in 2014 in a prefabricated building on rented grounds to the village house. Four students started. They have always had problems with the village house. Three years ago, they started talking about getting the construction license. In September they received the answer, Mayor Ayensa refuses.
