The City Council, unanimously, has asked to move to the mixed area: “We have not requested it because we have requested it, the Basque is very present in our town, and proof of this is that it studies in model D three quarters of the children of the town. It is clear that parents want to educate children in Euskera, and that is a reflection of something,” said the mayor of Mañeru, Nuria García. He is a member of the independent party who has told us clearly: they are very angry with the decision of the PSN, rage and powerless because “we can do nothing”. This Thursday the matter will be voted on in the Parliament of Navarra and Mañero’s request will not go ahead.
“We are the only village in the valley that continues in the non-Vascophony area; the other towns that six years ago passed into the mixed area and we were left alone. There has been no problem with these peoples, why now? We do not understand the position of the PSN, we do not understand why they are in the negative. Furthermore, the arguments are also incomprehensible. How long do we have to stay in the non-vascophony zone?” says the mayor.
"With the villages in the valley that have moved to the mixed area there has been no problem, why now? We do not understand the attitude of the PSN"
Nor is it good that the Navarre Parliament rejects its proposal on municipal decision-making. “We are the ones who live here, but they will make the decision, it is clear that they have despised us when deciding.”
Nuria García also says that some use the Basque language for confrontation. Nevertheless, it reaffirms its intention to continue the struggle for the passage from Mañeru to the mixed area, and would like the Corporation to be held in Mañeru after the next municipal elections to continue the issue.
