The interviewer asked Etxebarria for a statement by Joseba Egibar: “What do you think the PNV says that Euskera is what makes us Basques?” Etxebarria replied: “I can no longer support the turra of the PNV with the Basque Country. I know five languages, and I learn Euskera, and I speak because I like it, because I'm a philologist. I do not consider myself more Basque than someone who speaks the Basque language better or worse. All you have to do is stop saying these nonsense and distribute the Basque cards. It is an example of the pride of some parts of Basque nationalism. To finish the play, Egibar said it was a translation error of the PNV itself. They are the usual gamberradas and rude of the person who considers himself best. Perhaps what it proves is complex inferiority. If so, let him cure it.”
In the same interview, Etxebarria confirmed that in the next municipal elections he will again be the head of the PSE list in Vitoria: “I thank Eneko Andueza for acknowledging my work and his confidence. I see myself with great strength to lead the socialist project in Vitoria.”
The president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, has responded in Radio Euskadi to the words of Etxebarria: “He reminded me with a spring of more than one leader of the PSE.” The mayor, Gorka Uraran, has not made any statement on this by his deputy mayor. On social media, several people have accused Etxebarria of Euskaphobia.
