Schooling on 11 May will not be compulsory in Iparralde
  • President Emmanuel Macron of France pointed out that the return to school would be "voluntary" in Iparralde and, in general, in the French state. Non-understanding and discrepancy have not calmed down the determinations.

Whatever you want: either take it to school or follow school from home. The French Government thus provides for the schooling of children. Emmanuel Macron has communicated this determination through a videoconference to a number of French defendants who have refused to participate in the process. In addition, it will not be launched for all on 11 May, “in the next three weeks the returns will be distributed to the schools”. The maximum number of pupils per classroom shall be 15.

Doing so “voluntarily” does not calm concerns. In fact, with the epidemic still present, the date of May 11 raised concerns between teachers and parents.

Not optional for all

In addition, the fact of being optional does not mean a solution, as not everyone can decide according to their wishes: there will be many people who will attend school instead of returning to work, even if they consider the step as dangerous. Basically, CGT Secretary General Philippe Martinez has assured that they do not agree and that the opening of centres would take place in September. Dionaz is a view shared by many scientists. “What does it mean voluntarily? Do they have parents who have no choice but to send their children to school? Under what conditions? In what proportion? And what do we do with parents who for respectable reasons do not want to send their child to school but who have the pressure to return to work by the head? How are they going to be taken into account?”, Martinez regretted.
