The elections were held eight weeks ago, on 7 July, and the New Popular Front (FHB), which brought together the left of the three main forces that were presented, won with only 193 Members, compared to the extreme right.

Lehendakari usually appoints the party's prime minister who has won the parliamentary elections, but this time he immediately said that he would not do so. The fact is that the left was far from the 289 Members to achieve an absolute majority in Parliament, but further away the Ensemble pour la République de Macron (166 Members) or the far right of Marine Le Pen (142).

Barnier, 73 years old and from the V. Higher Education Training Cycle, has a child. He will become the oldest Prime Minister in the history of the Republic, with over 8,000 seats. The lehendakari, Emmanuel Macron, has recognised that this is an exceptional designation and has published a statement announcing that he has tried to appoint the candidate that will have the most support.
