Emmanuel Macron loses an absolute majority in Parliament
  • The President’s candidature has won the most votes, but he has suffered a decline that will force him to seek government pacts. The left of Mélencha and the right end of Le Pen have grown a lot. In the Northern Basque Country, Bru and Lasserre by Macron and Echaniz on the left have prevailed in the Northern Basque Country, being able to delve into this article by Jenofa Berhokoirigoin.

Emmanuel Macronek legegintzaldi batez gehiengo absolutuarekin agindu du, oraingoan itunak bilatu beharko ditu ezkerrarekin edo eskuin muturrarekin.

With 351 MEPs out of 577, President Emmanuel Macron achieved an absolute majority in the French Parliament in 2017, with the possibility of guiding the policy he wanted in the next five years. The coalition between the parties on the left of NUPES sought not to repeat that. This is the objective he has achieved: Ensemble has 245 Members! The candidatures in favor of Macron, which need 289 to reach an absolute majority. However, the Republic on the right, with 61 seats won by the party and 11 other Members on the right, may think that Macron will achieve the majority in order to vote on the laws.

With the votes of the Members on the right, it can be expected that Macron will throw his way even further to the right. In front of him, the left will be the main force of the opposition, with more weight than in the last five years: NUPES has won 131 Members and 22 other elected seats are on the left. In 2017 the Left did not show up as this year and the Socialist Party got 45 Members, 17 the France Submissive party of Jean-Luc Melencesta, on the far left.

NUPES dreamed of getting the majority to appoint Melenchon the Prime Minister and cutting Parliament's way into Macron's liberal and right-wing politics. It has not succeeded and the challenge for the coming days and years will be to maintain and consolidate this new young and new unity between the leftist parties.

The day after the presidential elections, the Socialist Party, the green party Europe Ecologie, the Communist Party and France Insumiso managed to put aside the differences and prioritize the consensus. Faced with the presidents of 2027, they are now concerned with maintaining unity, so that within five years the step to the far right will be cut.

Abstention is the main winner of the following votes: 53.7% did not vote and another 3.5% did so either in blank or on invalid voting paper.

Right tip 8 to 89

A worrying fact is the result obtained by the Far-Right National Union: He got 89 chairs, 81 more than in 2017. By the vote, the Marine Le Pen party is strengthening the vote. Between the two rounds, Macron supporters placed almost in the same proportion the left end and the right end; and the necessary Republican front in the presidential elections has not pushed in this period; on the contrary, he mentioned the "danger" and the "disorder" implied by the left end. The French Government bears its responsibility for the rise of the far right.

In Northern Catalonia, four out of four Le Penek

In the four districts of Northern Catalonia he has won the extreme right of Le Pen. This is a big change, because five years ago they won only one in four and the other three went to the Macron party, as we can read on Vilaweb.

Reselection of Brittany Molac

The Member who has become an entrepreneurial leader in favour of minority languages and the extension of immersion models has been re-elected in Brittany: Paul Molac. In addition, the Macron party has imposed itself remarkably in Brittany.

In Corsica, three out of four Basque nationalists

Corsicans had to choose four Members on Sunday. Three of them will be nationalists and one from the Macron party, as you can read in the newspaper Corse Matin.
