"After careful consideration, I have instructed federal prosecutors to apply for the death penalty in this case as part of President Trump's agenda to stop violent crimes and make the United States safe again," the prosecutor argues.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Mangione with two more second-degree murders, as well as forgery and illegal possession of weapons. The 26-year-old defendant would face up to 20 years in prison for first-degree murder, and the second-degree charge would carry up to 15 years in prison.
