Last summer, the City Council of Estella made a decision that led to a lot of opposition among the population: after 28 years in the parking lot in front of the bus station, the municipal government headed by the UPN ordered the transfer of the party hut to the Los Llanos park next to the Ega river. The citizens took numerous actions to condemn the decision: The popular music group Raimundo el Canaste brought to light Beef D'Alda in protest, and mobilizations were also held to condemn the decision.
One of these mobilizations brought together 2,000 people on August 2, the first day of the festivities in Estella. Hundreds of protesters attended the Bajadica del Puy parade, which is held every year during the local festivities after the demonstration, to spread the demands against the displacement of the “txosnas”. Both the musicians and the dancers advanced in the usual way, but they cut the way for some politicians of the City Council and decided to go to the City Hall in the vans of the Provincial Council. Well, the first judicial consequences of this action come this weekend: 27 young people who participated in this protest will have to testify before the judge between 22 and 23 May.
The Local Police of Estella accuse the defendants of "public disorder" and made an appearance on Sunday. The youth denounce that the alley of Bajadica del Puy was suspended "due to an institutional decision". In fact, they explain that historically it has happened that hundreds of young people go to the streets to "make their demands". Therefore, they denounce that the institutions are "increasingly" limiting the political right to protest and mobilize.
Remembering those responsible for the situation
The young people have cited some examples of the "violence that hides behind" the case initiated by the local police, such as "possible prison sentences, economic sanctions, costs resulting from the judicial process, criminalization, psychological pressure, etc." In addition, those responsible for the situation created in connection with the transfer of the Txosna from Estella have also been pointed out: In addition to the UPN and PSN, the Local Police of Estella, the Foral Guard and the Civil Guard have been accused of "collaborating to investigate and point out 27 specific people". Meanwhile, the media Diario de Navarra and OKDiario have been accused of a "criminalizing campaign" against the decision taken by the City Council of Estella.
The meeting will be held on May 16 in front of the Town Hall of Estella
As part of the trial, the defendants created a platform called the 27 of Bajadika and announced that they will meet on May 16 in front of the City Hall of Estella at 8:00 p.m. During the outbreak, the local police are required to suspend the process so that no one can suffer "economic or criminal consequences" for protesting against the "authoritarian decisions" of the municipality.
