A former employee of the company Laminaciones de Lesaka, currently ArcelorMittal, died in 2016 as a result of pleural mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos. One of the descendants of Laminaciones, Cofivacasa, has reached an agreement with the family to compensate the widow of the deceased worker (EUR 133,000) and her daughter (EUR 27,000) for exclusive asbestos cancer, the use of which has been banned since 2002.

The LAB trade union has advised the family together with the Zuzenean office and has asked ArcelorMittal to determine the location of asbestos at the Lesaka plant for its withdrawal. "To develop a list of workers, assets or retirees, who have been more or less exposed to this mineral and to establish a plan for prevention and health surveillance."
