After 15 years of absence, a group of young people from Legutio occupied last December the building of the company LERIMONTE S.L. in the centre of the town, implementing the “Hotel Expropiuon” project. Members of the association have warned that the building could be at risk of eviction.

Over a 9-month tour, the property owners, who have kept the building for 15 years, have had to face the obstacles. The trial of the “Hotel Expropriado” was to be held in February, but the Covid-19 pandemic has lengthened the judicial procedure. Now, within one month, you can execute the opposite judgment of the project by risking the eviction of the building.

“We will not surrender”

Project members have highlighted the work done over a month: “We have turned the empty hotel into a space for proletarian organization and solidarity.” Among other tasks, a Food Bank has been set up in recent months and has stabilized in the locality, “Desjabetuopn Hoteletik”.

LERIMONTE S.L is the owner of the hotel and is carrying out the eviction work of the project members. The young people of Legutiano report that the company has no other purpose than to keep the building empty: “we know that the bourgeoisie is only interested in increasing its profits and its power, imposing on everyone and everyone to be subordinate to these interests.”

Faced with this situation, the members of the project have reaffirmed the “need” and have called for the defence of space: “We must defend the spaces controlled by the workers, as they are the conditions to take real steps on the path we want to build.”
