Unemployment has increased in January in Hego Euskal Herria and most of the unemployed are women and young people. In January, an additional 2,495 unemployed people were counted, currently 144,903 unemployed, 60% of whom are women. Their unemployment has risen to 58.2% and that of men to 41.7%. Among young people, the number of unemployed has increased by 5%, three times the average.

Even though unemployment fell a little in December, the completion of the Christmas campaign has been affected. The number of unemployed in the services sector has increased considerably, while unemployment has decreased in the other sectors.

In addition, 74% of contracts concluded in January have been temporary. LAB denounces that this "created and destroyed" job is "unstable and precarious" and that, according to the Ikusmiran report from the South of the North, one in two workers is "in a precarious situation". ELA also denounces that the January data reflect the "raw reality of precariousness". "We are in a situation of uncertainty, with negative forecasts for the coming months, which will affect employment."
