52% of the unemployed are long-term in the CAV
  • Unemployment in Hego Euskal Herria has increased by 2,578 people, according to data provided by Eustat. In total, 172,455 citizens of Hego Euskal Herria are unemployed, according to data provided by the State Public Employment Service.

Regarding Social Security data, in Hego Euskal Herria there are 21,593 participants fewer than a year ago.

The Basque Government has focused on CAV data and has stressed that the increase in unemployment compared to the previous year is significantly higher among men (13.42%) than among women (9.33%). However, 55.31% of the unemployed are women.

Compared to the previous year, unemployment between the ages of 16 and 24 has risen in the CAV (29.37%), while among those over 54 the rise has been more moderate (6.56%). The number of people who have not had a first work experience has increased by 14%.

Compared to last year, unemployment in the services of the Basque Autonomous Community increased by 11.64% and in industry by 8.83%. The primary sector has risen 6.13% and construction 6.69%. Moreover, compared to the previous year, long-term unemployment in the CVA increased by 20.80%, while short-term unemployment increased by 2.24%. Currently, 52 per cent of the unemployed, or 67,983 people, are long-term in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Álava.
