A surf park is rejected in Landeta, contented ecologists
  • Projects have already been withdrawn from various surf parks to be built in the French State. The last was Castets Landes, as we read in La Rènorma. The social movements that have denounced the waste of water and energy that the project planned have shown their satisfaction, but have reminded that companies like Wavegard are going to launch new projects. "The next starts with the end of a battle," says Observatoire des Vagues Artificielles.

In total, 17 associations have joined the fight against Castets Landes. They have collected over 22,000 signatures and made various mobilisations. Investors have applauded the setback by demonstrating that the citizen struggle can bear fruit, according to Steven, a member of that organization.

Protests are based on excess energy and water. In this sense, La Rèmenor has given the data of another surf park to be built in the city of Sevran: if it had been built, it would have consumed 243 Olympic pools a year. In the case of Castets, the estimate is that the total population needs twice the energy it consumes. The mayor of the village of 2,100 has not yet reported what will happen to the forest area of 20 hectares.

In our country there is also the issue of artificial surf parks. In 2020 we learned that the San Juan de Luz project was paralyzed and the San Sebastian Antondegi project has hardly been published in recent months. On the Artificial Surf Parks channel we are receiving news of the return of the theme and it is the last of June last year, several experts have warned about the impact that the San Sebastian artificial surf park would produce in the environment.
